Pathfinders update from Hh

As the holidays end and the New Year begins, we wanted to update you on everything PATHFINDERS-related.

First of all, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who submitted their story last year!

We were overwhelmed by the number, quality and range of entries. Which was an excellent problem to have! The next few months were spent reading through everything and beginning to piece together the final book – a deeply engaging experience thanks to your amazing writing.

Submissions were into triple figures and stood at over 125,000 words – but by careful editing we’ve been able to include nearly 100 stories, and 70,000 of these wonderful words.

There are lots of incredible tales in there. To take a random sample, we’ve got the stories and advice of:

  • two teachers who never made a six-figure salary combined, but retired as millionaires in their 30s
  • a restaurant employee on minimum wage who will be able to retire before he turns 45
  • a new police detective living in a rough neighborhood with family on the way
  • a couple who, rather than waiting for old age to have the adventure of a lifetime, turned their lifetime into an adventure – and still reached FI
  • an infectious diseases physician at the height of a global pandemic, threatened with being let go

And much more!

We’ll be writing to everyone who appears in the final book soon.

There’s a ton of wisdom and wit throughout the material, and we can’t wait to share it with the world. We know it’s going to be a huge help to others.

We are delighted to report that work on the manuscript is now complete! The book is being typeset as we speak.

There’s still a long road between now and publication of course – proofreading, illustrating, final revisions, printing, eBook, audio and more to come – but this is a significant milestone and we wanted you to be the first to know.

There are also two big PATHFINDERS things coming your way soon.

The first is the cover, and it’s coming so soon that it’s a mere paragraph away. We are thrilled to unveil it now:

Our goal was to honor the legendary cover of JL’s The Simple Path to Wealth, while also capturing the nature of PATHFINDERS. We really hope you like it!

The second is you can  pre order  it now:

Pathfinders pre-orders

The book won’t be out till October 2023 because of printing times (and all that typesetting, proofreading and so on to make it as perfect as can be!), but you’ll be able to secure your copies ahead of the holidays – and there’ll be lots of other goodies to share too.

Wishing you and yours a joyous end to the year and a brilliant 2023!

With warmest wishes and thanks once again,

Harriman House

The post above is from a message my publisher for Pathfinders sent to the mailing list for news on the book.  I wanted to share it with you. They have been awesome partners in this project!

If you’d like to be on the mailing list yourself, here’s the link:

If you are interested in ordering the book now, here is the for pre-sales:

Pathfinders pre-orders

Pre-ordering is a great way to support the book if you are so inclined.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing with you two of the stories from Pathfinders:

Staying the Course in Wartime, from a Ukrainian contributor.

When Your Country Becomes a Global Outcast, from a Russian contributor.

Both these are from the section of the book Staying the Course. Providing both samples from the same section is probably very poor marketing. But as both are ripped from today’s headlines, I trust you can see why I chose them.

Copies of the Taiwanese edition of The Simple Path to Wealth just caught up to me in our travels. Looks cool!

Important Resources

  • Talent Stacker is a resource that I learned about through my work with Jonathan and Brad at ChooseFI, and first heard about Salesforce as a career option in an episode where they featured Bradley Rice on the Podcast. In that episode, Bradley shared how he reached FI quickly thanks to his huge paychecks and discipline in keeping his expenses low. Jonathan teamed up with Bradley to build Talent Stacker, and they have helped more than 1,000 students from all walks of life complete the program and land jobs like clockwork, earning double or even triple their old salaries using a Salesforce certification to break into a no-code tech career.
  • Credit Cards are like chain saws. Incredibly useful. Incredibly dangerous. Resolve to pay in full each month and never carry a balance. Do that and they can be great tools. Here are some of the very best for travel hacking, cash back and small business rewards.
  • Empower is a free tool to manage and evaluate your investments. With great visuals you can track your net worth, asset allocation, and portfolio performance, including costs. At a glance you'll see what's working and what you might want to change. Here's my full review.
  • Betterment is my recommendation for hands-off investors who prefer a DIFM (Do It For Me) approach. It is also a great tool for reaching short-term savings goals. Here is my Betterment Review
  • NewRetirement offers cool tools to help guide you in answering the question: Do I have enough money to retire? And getting started is free. Sign up and you will be offered two paths into their retirement planner. I was also on their podcast and you can check that out here:Video version, Podcast version.
  • Tuft & Needle (T&N) helps me sleep at night. They are a very cool company with a great product. Here’s my review of what we are currently sleeping on: Our Walnut Frame and Mint Mattress.

NEWS FLASH: I have it on good authority that if you bring your copy of Pathfinders to Notchautauqua Maine this summer, JL will sign it if he’s here.

The cover looks GREAT! I am very excited to not only read this, but to buy copies for everyone I bought Simple Path for – well, at least for those who didn’t take The Path and need more encouragement. 🙂

  2. Florem Hill says

Looking forward to reading more inspirational stories to stay the course especially with what’s going on now. Thank you for the update!

  3. Luis says

Is this book going to be available on Kindle? I would love to read it.
Thanks JL Collins!! I’m leaving a better life taking care of my parents, family, having more time for me, my interests… that kind of stuff. You allowed all of this. Thanks a lot.
